The Fire Demonstration and Alternate Solutions Workshop follows the guidelines and principles as set forth by two other popular workshops – ‘Lateral Loads’, and ‘Timber Connections’. As such, this program incorporates both a classroom lecture setting and an on-site demonstration.
The classroom portion will have technical content presented by several experts on various aspects of fire safety, design of buildings, and will be supported by mini-presentations by exhibitors.
The second day will involve a trip to the Surrey Fire Services testing facility and will feature a live on-site fire demonstration comparing fire responses of several construction assemblies, including a CLT, a light-frame steel and possibly a nail-laminated timber structure, all constructed to the most recent code requirements for fire resistance.
This comprehensive program will:
- examine the current building code’s fire safety strategies;
- draw from examples of current design and construction practices; and
- provide valuable insight into proposed legislation pertaining to upcoming code changes.
Find out how timber elements can be used and learn how they fully comply with fire-related building code regulations in both the residential and non-residential market segments.
