UDI Congratulates the Federal Government for Transit Funding
The Urban Development Institute (UDI) applauds today’s announcement by the Federal to provide $460 million over the next three years to fund transit infrastructure in British Columbia. UDI has always been a proud supporter of transit investments.
More transit means:
• Increasingly Vibrant Transit Oriented Communities that are more affordable and sustainable;
• Decreased Traffic Congestion for the million new residents coming to the Region by 2041 and for our key goods transportation sector; and
• Enhanced Regional Connections, which will also improve the economy by providing people with better access to jobs and a genuine alternative to driving.
UDI is also pleased that the Federal government will also be more flexible in its funding of transit by their announcement to fund up to half the costs of future transit projects.
Anne McMullin, UDI’s President and CEO, said “The development industry congratulates the Federal government for today’s announcement, and we encourage Metro municipalities and the Province to work together to access these new funds as soon as possible, so new transit lines can be built.”
She added, “We also look forward to working with our municipal partners to locate new homes and businesses near the future transit stations to fully leverage these important infrastructure investments.”
